My dear brother's tree

I cut up and transported a fallen tree from the front of my parents' house in Longford to the Joinery in Stoneybatter, Dublin.
I then rebuilt the tree using the inside and outside of the Joinery building, penetrating the structure.

The viewing position for this work was from the footpath across the road, so in a sense this piece was not for 'gallery goers' so much as for those who might happen to pass by, or those who came to the performance on the opening night.

(A year later a second part to this piece emerged called "Two Towers in a Forest," which was also performance / installation based, while making use of the Joinery building and its physical position in the city. Click here for that project.)

Thanks to the Joinery, Tadhg O'Sullivan, Marta Fernández Calvo, and Miranda Driscoll.
The piece being read at the opening performance is a small section from a short story I wrote: "Design No. 108," the full version of which was published in the Dublin Review Ed. 52.
